Tia Maria Coffee Liqueur & Gift Sets

Tia Maria comes with two different origin stories, and nobody's entirely sure which one to believe. The official version is a 17th century tale of a young woman fleeing a Jamaican plantation during colonial unrest, saved by her servant Maria, who smuggled out the family's secret liqueur recipe along with the jewellery. The more likely version has it invented in 1946 by a Jamaican doctor working with Blue Mountain coffee and Myers Rum.

Either way, the liqueur stayed rooted in Jamaica for decades before ownership passed through Hiram Walker, Allied Domecq and Pernod Ricard, eventually landing with the Italian company Illva Saronno in 2009, who still make it today using Arabica coffee, Bourbon vanilla and Jamaican rum in the blend.
