Southern Comfort Whiskey Liqueur & Fudge

Long before it carried its current name, this was a New Orleans bartender's private recipe called Cuffs and Buttons. Martin Wilkes Heron mixed it behind the bar at a tavern near Bourbon Street in 1874, folding cherry, orange, cinnamon and a little honey into a rough whiskey to smooth out the edges, then patented the result and renamed it Southern Comfort.

It's been through a few changes of ownership and recipe since, including a stretch where the whiskey was swapped for neutral spirit, before current owner Sazerac put real whiskey back into the blend in 2017. Janis Joplin was famously devoted to it, enough that the brand once gifted her a lynx fur coat in thanks for the free publicity.

At Threshers, the core Original sits alongside Black, a bourbon-forward, spice-heavy take on the same idea bottled at a higher proof, in both 70cl and 1L bottles. There's also a Southern Comfort branded fudge for anyone who'd rather taste the flavour than drink it.
