Oh, where did the Summer go? From the Euros to Wimbledon and then finally Freedom Day, it seems as though there was always a reason to celebrate during the last few months. And of course, we Brits did it in style! From canned cocktails to affordable bubbly, topped off with a selection of organic wines. Whether we were drinking in a park, on a rooftop, or in someone else’s gardens, one thing remained the same- we made sure we enjoyed celebrating the moments with others, as well as our go-to beverage.
It was a fun one, wouldn’t you agree?
But don’t let the winter blues set in just yet! The change of season certainly brings a cooler temperature, but it also brings a mixed multitude of new flavors and tastes to consider. September is another great month to try out the cool and fresh concoctions you may have forgotten about in the Summer.
As we wrap up Summer and gradually start to embrace Autumn, why not change your ingredients up. Consider ripe peaches, apricots, cherries, and cucumbers. By adding these into your summer drinks, they can take on a whole new level of refreshing tastes.
Ready to mix things up? Here are our 5 essential cocktails for September entertaining:
Spiced Cider Margaritas
Who’d have thought cider could be better in cold weather at home, than in warmer times in the pub garden?
- 150ml spiced cider
- ½ tspn lemon juice
- 15ml Grand Marnier
- 45ml gold tequila
Rim your glass by mixing brown sugar and cinnamon on a plate, lightly wetting the rim of the glass with Grand Marnier, and twirl it around on the plate. Mix your drink in a different glass, then pour into the other one, completing the cocktail with garnish and a cinnamon stick and a slice of apple.
Vanilla Pear Drop
Vodka might not be the first spirit you reach for when things start to cool down a bit, but pair it with vanilla and you can say goodbye to summer in style as you cozy up underneath a blanket.
- 45ml vodka
- 90ml pear juice
- ½ a vanilla pod
Shake the pear juice and the vodka up together over ice and scrape in the vanilla seeds. Strain over a lowball glass and garnish with a thin slice of pear.
Cranberry Cinnamon Whiskey Sour
You may no longer be rolling up your sleeves and prepping the barbecue, but that doesn’t mean party season is over. This recipe is in sharing sizes so you can get a few mates round and max and relax in the warm and dry with a drink as colourful as the autumn oaks.
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 450ml water
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 450ml black cherry bourbon
- 120ml lemon juice
- 120ml orange juice
- 120ml lime juice
Heat the water, sugar, cranberries, and cinnamon in a pot on medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes, or until the cranberries are burst and smooth. Take the syrup off the heat and strain it into a bowl. Let it cool for around 10 minutes, then pour 200ml of the syrup into a shaker. Adding the juices and bourbon, shake over ice, and serve.
